Chaperone

Chaperone is the alias of Philadelphia sound artist David Coccagna, a collector of sounds obscure and separated by enormous chasms of genres and cultures. His practice moves through cassette manipulation, looping and a personal archive spanning Japanese harsh noise bootlegs, late-’80s mail art, cult audiobooks and conspiracy recordings. On Hi Bias, these fragments collide without much concern for borders, folding distant signals into something strangely cohesive. As David quotes William S. Burroughs: “I’m not American Express. If you need to get from Paris to Tangier you have to do it yourself.”
