Radio TNP started as a gift mixtape from one best friend to another. Since then, that same curious spirit, a little stubborn about doing things our own way, has grown into a studio in the garden of Klaproos, recently expanded into three days of live broadcast every week, and a community of musicians, filmmakers, researchers, and DJs who show up for the love of the culture and all things music.
We've used that energy to do things most radio stations wouldn't think to try: DJ sets staged between the fruit and veggies of a Turkish supermarket, promoted in four languages so the neighborhood could actually feel invited. Cross-cultural club nights at Garage Noord and Skatecafe pairing DJs with traditional musicians, built to dissolve assumptions about who nightlife is "for." Festival takeovers for Dekmantel Selectors and ADE. Film nights that pair anthropological storytelling with the right soundtrack.
None of it happened in a vacuum. Oedipus, Dekmantel, ADE, the Van Gogh Museum, the University of Amsterdam, the City of Amsterdam — organizations with very different missions have all found something here worth backing. And when we recently opened up a crowdfunder in collaboration with AFK and Cultuurfonds to renovate our studio into a new creative epicentre for Amsterdam-Noord, 203 people backed it without a second thought, raising over €27.695. That's the kind of community TNP has built: one that shows up, dreams and grows together.
