In Rio de Janeiro, Bossa has been following a loose thread through the world of sound: the moment a synthesiser appears somewhere it supposedly shouldn’t. A drum machine in Zouk, a pop structure hiding in Kwaito, Italo melodies resurfacing in Brazilian music, reggae bending around electronic machinery. Each episode of Fora da Pista takes one place, one genre, one guest, and pulls at the thread, looking for the moments when something familiar becomes foreign, or something foreign starts to feel strangely close. Rare records, obvious ones and personal discoveries all enter the picture, with the connections left deliberately open-ended.
